Thousands of interstate air mail letters were destroyed when a PMG truck burst into flames following a collision with a car in Parkville. The truck was enroute from Essendon Airport to the Melbourne Mail exchange carrying 8- bags of mail. Ten mail bags were affected by the fire.
At least five examples of damaged covers accompanied by the PMB letter are recorded.
